“Cyber” is a buzzword that means everything related to being online: the web, how we communicate on it, and the tools we use to do so: computers, mobile phones, browsers, email, VPNs, antimalware, and so on and on.
“Cybersecurity” has to do with staying safe online: controlling who has access to ourselves, our personal information and our money.
The online world is rapidly changing, and what was true even a few years ago might not be so now. This is especially true of our personal security of our personal information and finances.
Second, given how many financial transactions occur electronically, the likelihood of fraud and theft is growing. In fact, to gain access to a person’s money, thieves often have to gain access to some aspect of their online identity.
The popularity of social media means we might (perhaps unintentionally) make personally identifying information public.
For this reason, we need to be alert to the threats we face and the techniques cybercriminals use and how we can protect ourselves.
That is the purpose of this blog: to highlight the dangers of being online and how to protect ourselves from them.
Keep your guard up!
